My daughter has been on more than one kids camp plus a trek and they have all been excellent experiences. Am always recommending to friends and daughter can't wait for the next one!

Fantastic Kids Camps! Mel and Zane are very experienced, have great values, and are brilliant with the kids. All the horses are safe and well educated. We have had 3 children attend numerous camps and they always come home buzzing and full of confidence! We can't recommend Falling Creek enough to riders of all levels! (and non - riders also).

I can't believe how great this Camp is. My daughter attended the children's camp and came home begging to go again. Well organized, excellent activities and wonderful leadership. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.

For anyone looking for a great weekend away, if you have never ridden or ridden a 1000 times this is the place to go.... Mel and Zane are just great and easy to get along with. The accommodation and food is divine.. peaceful location where you can sit on the couch outside undercover and watch the world pass you by...
Or move some stock have a zoom up a hill and a swim in the dam.... Options are endless. Well worth making the time to go.
And very accommodating for you to bring your own horses and offer a safe place for them to stay..

What a fabulous weekend away! Being able to take our own horses, go as an organized group and self cater was great option. The country is gorgeous with incredible veiws and tracks, thanks Casey for putting up with us😁 And biggest thanks to Mel and Zane for opening their home, I don't how you do it, but you do it well!

Had a fantastic camp/trek with the trekking club over the long weekend. Fantastic hosts, very comfy bunk bed, excellent guide, magnificent terrain, outstanding all round really. Can definitely recommend the location for anyone wanting something more challenging and longer lasting than many places offer, though I understand easier options are also available for the less adventurous. 😀

These guys are awesome at what they do! I'm sure anyone involved in organising horse treks/camps etc would agree its a mission trying to cater to everyone, yet we had the full range from beginners/occasional riders through to people who ride full time for a living and Mel, Zane and Casey were able to provide an engaging weekend that everyone could enjoy without feeling out of their depth or under done. Accomodation was welcoming and perfectly fit for purpose. Plenty of top quality home cooked food and a fun bunch of campers to top it off. Cheers guys!

I sent my daughter to a kids camp here last year, she had such a great time I had major FOMO! So I have just come back from their adult riding camp. Loved every minute of it! Such a fantastic venue. The accommodation was warm and clean, the food delicious and plentiful 😋 Hosts Mel, Zane and Casey were hospitable, professional and knowledgeable. The trail ride was awesome with fab views, a good length, great terrain, and challenging enough for my young horse. Plus I got to spend the weekend with an amazing bunch of girlfriends. Can't wait to go back!!!

Mel & Zane are fabulous hosts. So relaxed and hospitable, opening their friendly home and genuinely connecting with their guests. Their horses are fit, sane & ideal for people hiring them and they make it very easy for visiting horses to fit right in. I'm a repeat visitor, and I'll be back again. Amazing country & special people.

The best horse trek I've been on, hands down. The horses were beautiful and calm, the scenery was absolutely spectacular, and our guide Mel was fantastic. I really appreciated the basic handling lesson she gave us before we got going, it had been a long minute since I'd been on horse and it really gave me confidence. Mel also took so many photos along the way which were amazing. We will definitely be doing this again, highly recommend.

Iv learnt so much over the last term, from tack to horse health and well being. Thoroughly enjoyed the lessons. looking forward to continuing my learning journey with a horse of my own. My daughter & i had a super, 1hr Farm Trek! Despite her being a beginner rider, she managed comfortably with Mel's kind & patient direction. Horses are lovely natured & in great condition. Fabulous ride today! First time riding in quite awhile, first time at this venue. Mel was friendly, encouraging, laid back but also very professional. She kept checking in on my level of comfort and confidence which I was very grateful for. Horses were well behaved and content. Beautiful surroundings. Wonderful defrag. I will be returning for sure and be recommending to others. Thankyou Mel and Dream.

Myself and three others did an hours trek. The views were amazing. Mel was so patient and knowledgeable, and took us out our comfort zone but made sure we were safe and having fun. The best horse riding experience any of us have ever had! Its a must if you are visiting NZ!

My 7 year old son had his first ever horse trek around the farm and through the creeks with our homeschool community and definitely enjoyed it! He was so excited. Just had the most amazing weekend with some awesome like minded people at the Adults Camp....

If you are looking to spend time with friends, make new ones, experience incredible scenery, views and want to spend time in the saddle with their horses or your own, then this is a MUST.

The accommodation is impeccable, and owners Mel & Zane, generously open their home to make you feel at ease and comfortable. The food was amazing, and never went hungry that's for sure.

The cattle rounding experience was one of the highlights and seeing everyone's smiles were priceless.

So many belly laughs shared... and not to mention absolute value for money. I'll definitely be returning ☺️, sorry about that x

Welcoming and very knowledgeable hosts, wonderful scenery, and trustworthy horses made for a fantastic adult camp weekend. A great way to leave the hustle and bustle of normal life behind and to recharge. The horse I rode was as "bomb proof" as one will ever get, allowing me to relax and thoroughly enjoy being with the animals and nature. Highly recommended. I am looking forward to coming again :-).

Nikita Diprose & myself came from Invercargill to join these incredible people Zane & Mel who run horse camps on their ranch. I personally felt it was the best trekking I have ever done and the horses were beautifully mannered. You could see the natural horsemanship that these beauties have obtained their manner from. Iv never ridden or had confidence with riding a horse in a halter and by far that was one of my favourite things to do that weekend. The scenery was incredible and the beach ride was the icing on the cake! My (horse-shaped) bucket was so full after that weekend! Zane & Mel…. What a team!!! Not enough words to say how greatful I was to have had this incredible experience with you guys. 10/10!!! I’ll be back with a group next time!!

Great trek and the views were amazing. Definitely something for everyone on the treks. Came here at the start of 2023. It was an amazing experience me and my family did the longer horse trek which I think was around 1.5- 2 hours long. We had a fantastic guide and it was helpful that we were taken through some initial tips at the start about how to control the horses. This really helped with confidence. Over all I would recommend Falling Creek Ranch to everybody. It doesn't matter if you haven't ridden a horse before or not as it will still be a fantastic experiences.

We really enjoyed our 2 hour trek with Mel. The horses were well behaved. Stunning views from the peak the the farm. We'll worth it!

My sister & I went for some horse riding and it was amazing. Mel was really kind and understanding and the horses were easy to ride once you got used to them. Before we went Mel toook us through a practice thing to help us get the hang of things which was really helpful, too. Would definietly do again!

My partner and myself did a 2 hour trek tour with Mel. It was absolutely beautiful. We even got to round up some cows. Mel and her husband have a beautiful ranch and amazing/calm horses. We highly recommend anyone to go!

Just got home from 2 fantastic days at Falling Creek. Really enjoyed the 2 clinics and things learnt with enhance partnership with my horse and add to my riding enjoyment. The trekking out on the ranch very cool and highlights were Creek ride and riding through the Pond. Views stunning! Zane and Mel are really welcoming and set up brilliant. A totally amazing experience at the November 2022 Adult Horse Camp. I took my green horse for his first group ride and the ride was exactly what he needed to get the milage in and to keep him thinking about the job on hand. Zane and Mel are incredible horse people and the fellow campers were kind and courteous. Showers and food perfect after a big day. 100% recommended.

My daughter (10) has attended the kids camp and is enrolled in lessons once a week. Her confidence and abilities have blossomed under the guidance of Mel. Kids camp was sooo much fun for miss10 that she wants to attend every holidays and oneday become a leader. My shy, reserved little girl has really found something to sink her teeth into and I can’t thank the Scott’s enough for their awesome, fun and easy going approach. Lessons have been so helpful for building confidence, risk taking and miss10 has certainly found “her thing”
I can see her becoming a fantastic rider, and we will be sticking with Falling Creek Ranch for the journey. Thanks team.

Amazing experience! Horses very well trained, you feel totally safe on them which isn't always the case with a horse trek! Friendly guide and they let you go at your own pace whcih is awesome. Amazing views - highly recommend the sunset edition. Such a cool trek - not your average walking around a farm - you go through creeks,lakes etc and walk along the ridges. Thanks to Zane and Mel for such an epic experience! Will definitely be coming back ????

The best horse trekking I’ve ever experienced! Highly recommend! Mel is an amazing guide, the horse was great, the terrain is varied & beautiful. Mel did great at working with my limited experience starting with a short confidence course before the trek and had me give trotting a go by the end.

Went on a lovely back country trek with a great group. Rode one of Mel and Zane's horses and had a good day overall. I found the trek was a bit challenging for a nervous beginner like myself - although I remainder safely in the saddle the whole time. I have now signed up for lessons and I look forward to improving my competence.

I loved going to the kids camp recently. We rode every day and did lots of awesome activities. Mel and Zane are really kind and lots of fun. They run the camps very well , I am gluten and dairy free and they cooked separate food for me which I really appreciate. I had the most amazing week and am definitely coming back. The most amazing weekend at the adult riding camp. Awesome horses, beautiful trekking through rolling hills, steep terrain tracks, creeks the Falling Creek Ranch has it all. Great Horseback Riding We had a very enjoyable hour and a half horse ride! The Falling Creek Ranch was just beautiful. Our guide, Mel, was great - very pleasant and helpful. The horses were healthy and well-behaved. Myself, my parent, our daughter (age 13), and our son (age 11) loved the variety of paths and terrain. I highly recommend Falling Creek Ranch for horse treks! (My son also loved petting all of the dogs there!)

Never Misses Our daughter has been coming to falling Creek ranch since the start. She absolutely loves it and never misses a camp. Mel and Zane are such a nice couple and super friendly. Highly recommend for any horse lovers!

Absolutely breath taking. Be you a regular rider, a novice or never been on a horse before, Zane and Mel will make you feel totally at ease. Once you get there, you won't want to leave and you'll definitely be planning a return trip

was an absolute pleasure to have zane work my horse for me for a few weeks and help iron out the little things we had going on. horse has come home super relaxed with a canter you can sit to all day. zane kept me updated with videos and I left reassured my horse was well on his way to being a lifelong ridden partner. thankyou Zane. highly recommend falling creek ranch to any horsey person ????

This is one of the better horse trail treks to do around the Wanganui area, only being aprox 20 minutes out of Wanganui and the route clearly signposted. Absolutely throughly enjoyed this trek, horses all very well trained and gorgeous to work with. Mel was wonderful, very friendly and taught everyone how to operate the horse , having a very great teaching style. Really enjoyed the horse trek , and the actual trek itself was brillant taking us all around the farm and through some streams. Scenic and beautiful and without a doubt the best treks thier is to do around the Wanganui area. Mel also gave us the teaching to wash horses down, remove saddles and take them back to the paddocks, which provided a unique expirence like no other trek. Also very reasonably priced. Great ranch!

Ridiculous fun! We loved our lessons with Mel, trying different styles of horse riding, and trekking around the farm at dusk. Lovely people and a beautiful environment to learn in.

An awesome place to go for treks and camps, run by a wonderful family-focused couple, Mel & Zane. Their adult camps are heaps of fun and a great experience. I'd highly recommend. But their treks around the farm or at the beach are equally as awesome. Out of all of the places in Whanganui, this is the place to go!

I sent my youngster to Falling Creek Ranch to be started under saddle by Zane, at each stage Zane kept me notified of his progress and when the time came for me to come and ride him I was absolutely blown away by my young horse's confidence... I feel safe riding him... and he feels as if he enjoys his job... Zane has an incredible and rare talent... Additionally, I have had the good fortune to attend one of Zane and Mel's weekend adult camps... we were treated to incredible accommodation... beautiful home cooked meals... great entertainment and mind blowing scenery out on the trail... there was a considerable skill mix (a total learner on one of the ranch horses and at the other end of the scale seasoned and experienced horsemen and women on their own horses) - every skill level was well catered for. I cannot recommend these wonderful people enough

Great experience! My daughter (5yrs old) and me went for a lesson and it was just awesome.

I turned up at Falling Creek Ranch as a nervous adult returning to riding, and left feeling so confident and empowered! Mel put me right at ease the moment I arrived and my horse totally looked after me - I couldn't wipe the smile off my face the entire ride. I can't wait to come back!

Friendly folk, reliable horses, gorgeous views, delicious food, awesome times had! 100% recommend. Fuel the soul!

My daughter has been to several of the camps and always has a fabulous time. Not only does she loves all the things to do with the horses but the other activities too e.g bush walks, archery and games.

Went on a lovely back country trek with a great group. Rode one of Mel and Zane's horses and had a good day overall. I found the trek was a bit challenging for a nervous beginner like myself - although I remainder safely in the saddle the whole time. I have now signed up for lessons and I look forward to improving my competence.

I have taken a number of the children I work with, riding with Zane & Mel ... and all of them have loved their experiences. Zane & Mel are both passionate and gifted in what they do.

My daughter absolutely loves having riding lessons with Falling Creek. Being out in the beautiful countryside whilst learning along with having instructors that are patient and passionate about sharing their knowledge. On their camp there are so many amazing opportunities to experience, varied activities keeping them engaged with the reassurance that your child is well looked after and safe. I came here for a lesson and had such a great time. My instructor Mel had the horse all ready for me when I arrived which was great. We both rode along their farm and the scenery was beautiful. Mel & Zane are both just wonderful people, my children and i have been having lessons with Mel for the past 9 months & we love every minute of our lessons! My 10yr old went on a kid camps, the story’s she told on her return were ones she will will hold close for a life time! Good old kiwi fun & adventures. Couldn't recommended more.

I have know Zane and Mel for roughly 18 months. Zane has helped me hugely with a young brained dressage horse where he helped him to overcome his fears and had him to work over the hills he came back to me a different horse. Zane has a way with horses and a understanding of working with them which is very refreshing , he allows the horse to develop at its pace and with confidence. I feel safe riding him... and he feels as if he enjoys his job... Zane has an incredible and rare talent...

Additionally, I have had the good fortune to attend one of Zane and Mel's weekend adult camps... we were treated to incredible accommodation...
beautiful home cooked meals... great entertainment and mind blowing scenery out on the trail... there was a considerable skill mix (a total learner on one of the ranch horses and at the other end of the scale seasoned and experienced horsemen and women on their own horses) - every skill level was well catered for.

I cannot recommend these wonderful people enough

My kids love riding at falling creek. Both after school lessons and horse camps. Highly recommend for all sorts of horse people, but especially for families like ours where the parents know nothing of the horse world but their children are obsessed.

Highly recommend the weekend retreat. Mel and Zane are great hosts. We were well looked after with great food, laughs and meeting like-minded people to trek with on our horses over great terrain. They cater for all levels of riding ability, and you don't even have to have your own horse.

My daughter absolutely loves attending horse camp, it's her favourite thing full stop! Nothing compares. The staff and facilities are great and it has been a valuable experience for her not only learning about horses and riding but the other activities offered too and has really built her confidence. We will continue to attend horse camps in future they're just the best

Falling Creek ranch is such a cool experience, I went there as a nervous rider and came away much more confident. Mel and Zane have created a fabulous, authentic, horse riding ranch. I am looking forward to my next visit, I’ll have to bring my kids though next time because they were jealous of my stories and photos.

very enjoyable We took our gran kids horse riding on a trek, first time on a horse for me and totally recommend it. This is for all ages and skill levels. Owners make you feel very relaxed while on the trek and made sure you were ok throughout. My grandkids are 12 and 9 and I'm 58

Zane recently started our 3 year old warm blood gelding. I can’t recommend Zane enough. Zane kept us updated every step of the way and when we collected the horse, spent time explaining everything and making sure we were happy and confident -even taking my daughter for a trek around the farm. The horse has come home calm and easy to handle and ride- a huge testament to Zane’s skills at working with horses. The horse has been started using gentle methods showcasing Zane’s ability to understand how each horse thinks.

I recently bought an 8 yr old gelding who had never walked off a lead rope. He was known to buck, didn't like other horses and had many other issues. Zane worked with him, taught him to trust, and in due course got encouraged him to not only accept a rider but actually enjoy being ridden. Zane kept me updated on progress every step with videos and messages. Before allowing us to bring hi. home, Zane spent time with my daughter showing her ground work then took her for a trek to make sure both horse and rider were suited. Inow have a horse my daughter feels confident riding.

Zanes methods are gentle. He understands the horses and produces quiet safe mounts.

I cannot recommend him highly enough. He took a horse I had doubts about and turned him around.

Just had the most amazing camp at Falling Creek. The hosts Mel and Zane are amazing, their hosting skills left nothing to chance and their attention to detail was fantastic. Zanes horse knowledge is ‘wow’ and, if I can think of anymore positive words, their horse’s and treks were once in a lifetime activities, western riding over 4-5hrs without touching a road, dream come true riding. Just had a private lesson with Zane, I absolutely LOVED it, Zane was amazing, definitely knows his stuff! The lesson was a perfect mixture of learning some basics to riding in the paddock following some weaners which was exactly what I needed and wanted.

I left on a huge buzz and have been dreaming about doing it again all weekend 🙂

Such a great experience and will be booking in again next week and have also booked in a long weekend later in the year. If I had more money and didn’t have 2 small people to look after I would’ve been back already.

Putting me at ease! Zane took in my Clydesdale Fergus and started him for riding over a 6 week period. I could be described as an over protection owner but this was taken in Zane’s stride with regular updates and putting me at ease! Fergus has returned home and is an absolute pleasure to ride, he listens to voice and can be ridden with or without a bit. We have taken him out over farms and he has ridden like he has had someone on his back for years not weeks. I highly recommend Zane and team to anyone wanting to have there horse started or some tweaking work done. Zane’s methods work with the horse not against it. Zane spends time explaining his methods and showing you how to work with your horse. This includes a trek and round pen work. Thank you for the brilliant job you have done with Fergus, I couldn’t recommend you enough.

Great trek and the views were amazing. Definitely something for everyone on the treks. Came here at the start of 2023. It was an amazing experience me and my family did the longer horse trek which I think was around 1.5- 2 hours long. We had a fantastic guide and it was helpful that we were taken through some initial tips at the start about how to control the horses. This really helped with confidence. Over all I would recommend Falling Creek Ranch to everybody. It doesn't matter if you haven't ridden a horse before or not as it will still be a fantastic experiences.
